The painting “Jazzcats Crossing the Hudson” is designed by Jeff Jank (2010).

It pre-emptively commemorates the arrival in New York City of jazz greats Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, Sun Ra and others (Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, Herbie Hancock, Joachim Kühn, Raphe Malik, Phil Ranelin, Pharoah Sanders).

The painting is remarkable for the fact that it was created decades before the birth of any of these jazz artists. It was inspired by ‘Washington Crossing the Delaware’ by Emanuel Leutze, 1851, MMA-NYC.

Jazzcats Crossing the Hudson” appears on Madlib Medicine Show #8 Advanced Jazz (Stones Throw records 2010)
